Backstory
Our infrastructure currently runs on our own servers in our mini data centre. This mini data centre is a small separate room with a high rack, an air conditioning system and a VDSL 250 Mbit connection.
That has some advantages:
- Fast access to our systems
- we have everything in our own hands
- physical access to the hardware
And some disadvantages:
- of course the bandwidth (with 40 Mbit upload you cannot really do much)
- the power consumption is noticeable
- the cooling effort in summer is immense
Since we also want to offer services to our customers, the low bandwidth is the deciding factor. We need a new solution.
The new path
When looking for affordable root servers, you can hardly avoid Hetzner. Their price/performance ratio is astonishing, so we quickly decided to rebuild our infrastructure at Hetzner.
We are starting a technical blog series to document the rebuild step by step for the outside world and to show what our learning curve looks like.
We have not set everything up yet, i.e. the blog series is being created on a living subject.
It stays exciting.
